Children’s Sunday School classes are provided each Sunday from 9:00 am – 10:00 am for children three years old through fifth grade. Infant and toddler childcare is provided in our nursery, in the upstairs Sunday School hallway for children under three.
In addition to our Workshop Rotation Sunday School classes, about once a month, our children and youth participate in our all-congregational “Mission Sundays” which have included everything from raising awareness for the March of Dimes to making dinner for local firefighters to learning more about the Linn Community Food Pantry, which is housed at our church.
Preschool Sunday School:
Three & Four Year-olds:
Our Preschool Sunday School Class is studying the “Spark Lectionary” Curriculum this year. Spark Lectionary is a three-year curriculum, with fall, winter and spring quarters each year. The lessons correspond to the Revised Common Lectionary – helping kids get more out of both worship and Sunday School. Each week our preschoolers participate in centers, listen to a Bible story, and participate in children’s music.
Elementary School Children (K-5th graders)
Our first through fifth graders are experiencing a new and creative approach to Sunday School — the Workshop Rotation Model. Workshop leaders change with each rotation. Each class is assigned shepherds for the year. The shepherds meet with the class each Sunday and guide them through the rotation.
What is the Workshop Rotation Model?
In this fresh approach to teaching the Bible our classrooms have been designed into “workshops”, each focusing on a particular learning style and creative activity. A Bible story or concept is taught throughout the workshops over the course of several weeks. Children come to know the Bible and God through a variety activities—drama, art, games, cooking, computer lab/tablet apps, music, science, puppets and more.
How Does it Work?
Curriculum is designed in 3-6 week “rotations” based on major Biblical stories and themes. During one 3-6 week period (a rotation), only one Bible story/theme is taught. Every week each workshop is focused on learning that particular story. Each Sunday all children meet in their rotation rooms (see white boards in Sunday School hallway to locate where your class is meeting) and end together with a time for music, offering and talking about our theme for that rotation.
Bible Village Workshops
We are excited about the implementation of a new rotational curriculum in Bible Village. This year’s Workshop Rotation Curriculum is part of a seven year scope and sequence that has been used and has gotten great reviews from other local churches.
Sunday School Shepherds:
Our Elementary School Shepherds for this year are: Chad and Jaime Weldon, Laura Behrens, and Wally White. Chad Proctor is our shepherd for our Junior and Senior High class this year.
