High School Mission Trip Report -2015

On July 19 before anyone was awake to think about heading for church, the High School members of First Pres set out on their journey to the Heifer Ranch near Perryville AR.  Libby Miller wrote this in anticipation:

“Heifer International is very near and dear to my heart. As a child, my parents and grandparents would give us gifts of ducks, chickens, and once a llama, as a joint gift between me and my brother. The gifts were actually donations of the animals to be in our name. Growing up, knowing that someone had given a gift to a family across the world, in my name, was the coolest thing-even if I didn’t yet fully grasp the concept of sustainability.

Now, after being connected to Heifer for years, it’s such an awesome opportunity to be able to experience the operations of Heifer in a completely new way. Despite the Arkansas humidity, the learning that happens here is amazing. Being able to put the 12 Cornerstones of Heifer into action and seeing firsthand how Heifer efficiently shares the tools of sustainability around the globe, has made the whole process come full circle. I can’t wait to learn even more this week and see how God uses my knowledge to help sustain the earth and Him.”

Since that writing these young people have shared team building activities, made pizza from scratch, and connected with animals.

Then they turned in their modern conveniences to spend the night in the “Global Village,” to have a taste of life in poverty. They learned to share resources to make a village
